Radiofrequency Needle Design: Active Tip, Insulation Coating and OEM Configuration
Mekon’s radiofrequency needle and RF cannula range includes straight and curved configurations together with sharp and blunt distal-tip options, multiple active-tip lengths, radiopaque needle designs and project-specific insulation choices. The appropriate configuration should be confirmed together with the compatible electrode, generator and complete device program.

01 Why RF Needle Design Is a System Question
In an RF needle program, the distal conductive region and the insulated shaft perform different roles within the complete device. The exposed active tip is positioned at the distal end, while the remaining shaft is insulated. Their relationship needs to be defined together with the tip profile, working length, hub orientation and compatible electrode.
This is why two needles with the same gauge and overall length may still represent different product configurations. Active-tip length, insulation boundary, straight or curved orientation, sharp or blunt distal form, lubrication and visibility options can all change the final device specification.
02 Active Tip Length and Distal Geometry
Active-tip length describes the exposed distal section of the RF cannula. It is not simply a catalog value: the active region needs to be located consistently relative to the needle tip and the end of the insulation coating.
The distal geometry also needs to remain repeatable. Mekon’s RF needle range supports straight and curved configurations together with sharp and blunt distal-tip options. Orientation and distal form are separate but connected configuration dimensions. For OEM development, the selected combination should be reviewed together with active-tip length, needle diameter, working length and hub reference.

03 Insulation Coating and Boundary Control
The insulated section of an RF cannula needs a continuous surface and a controlled transition to the exposed active tip. The product page describes a smooth tapered insulation made from enhanced dielectric material, with the needle available in radiopaque configurations.
From a manufacturing perspective, coating coverage, surface condition, adhesion, thickness consistency and the position of the distal boundary need to be included in the project requirements. The coating should also be reviewed after downstream processes such as assembly, cleaning, packaging and sterilization.
04 Tip Profile, Visibility and Hub Reference
RF tip selection should be reviewed across separate configuration dimensions. The distal section may be straight or curved, while the distal form may be sharp or blunt. Bevel profile is a further consideration, with Quincke bevel and a Lancet bevel reference included among the project options. Because the Lancet illustration is marked “for reference only,” its final availability and detailed geometry should be confirmed for the selected project. Radiopaque construction and echogenic or non-echogenic options may also be reviewed.
A hub reference indicator can support recognition of needle orientation, particularly when the selected distal design is directional. For project development, the hub, needle shaft and distal geometry should therefore be reviewed as an aligned assembly rather than as separate components.

05 Manufacturing Controls Behind Repeatable RF Cannulas
A finished RF cannula brings together needle-tube dimensions, straightness, tip grinding, active-tip exposure, insulation processing and hub assembly. Variation in one area can change the relationship between the distal tip, coating boundary and reference orientation.

06 OEM and ODM Configuration for RF Needle Programs
